Full Job Description

The Technical Engineering Manager role is responsible for leading a team of specialists to drive engineering best practice and innovation for our project portfolio.

The role will support the development of technical capabilities within the Project Engineering team through a blend of training, process refinement and quality assurance. As a leader in engineering excellence, the role is also expected to set a positive solution focussed culture where the team harness opportunities to utilise cutting edge technology, drive value engineered solutions for our customers, and maximise opportunity for standardisation to help facilitate the expansive growth taking place across our network to help deliver Net Zero.

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

- Managing and developing a team of Principal Engineers covering a range of engineering specialisms including AC substations (primary and secondary), civil, cable (AC and onshore) and OHLs.

- Driving improvement and change programmes on process, training and innovation that enables our talented pool of engineering specialists to fulfil their potential and increase the pivotal role they play in accelerating the development and delivery of the network growth required in the North of Scotland to deliver Net Zero.

- Leading a team of technical specialists to support and guide the project engineers to manage engineering risks and maximise opportunities to deliver value for money to the consumer and ensure that suitably competent resources, both internal and external, are available to maintain or accelerate programme dates., At SSEN Transmission, we take immense pride in owning and operating the high-voltage electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. Strong experience in leading, developing and managing high performing engineering teams with a focus on innovation and continual improvement.

- Qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably a Fellow or Chartered Engineer, with extensive experience in a similar environment but most importantly a strong ability to deliver positive change.

- Strong technical engineering knowledge and problem solving experience and capabilities across the range of engineering disciplines.

- As you'll be liaising with a wide range of individuals, you'll need to be able to understand and relay complex and technical messages in an easy-to-understand manner to other stakeholders, and have the ability to negotiate and influence effectively at all levels.
