The advertised role of Learning Assistant (ASN), is to work at Woodburn Primary School.

Woodburn Primary School and ELC serves the Woodburn area of Dalkeith. Our school building opened in 2009 within the Dalkeith Campus. We are a growing community due to new housing developments and our school roll is projected to increase further.

Woodburn Primary School and ELC is committed to providing a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment for all. As an inclusive school we believe in and promote the values of respect, nurture, trust and equality. We place our learners at the centre and strive to ensure that all children achieve their highest potential.

Our school has two wings. The first wing comprises of our School Office, ELC, service rooms, dining and activity halls. Our second wing has our classrooms and is split into three sections with all classrooms opening out onto the atria. In addition we have an Expressive Arts Hall, Library and ICT suite. The school has multi sport facilities including basketball, badminton and athletics. We benefit from a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) used by our children for P.E and for recreation. Members of our community make use of the school’s facilities. We have a new extension due to be completed in January 2025.

Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.

The jobholder must be familiar with child development and able to respond to the needs of individual pupils. Jobholders should have previous experience of working in this field of work.

To be fully competent in the role jobholders will be required to undertake addition training courses eg first aid, calm techniques etc.

If the post is within a Nursery Environment then the Jobholder must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment. In order to register you must currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining these qualifications within the first year of registration. Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 27.5 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £17,027.02  per annum.
