Full Job Description

As a Learning and Engagement Volunteer you will provide essential support to our small museum team to help schools and community groups engage with over 390 years of Scotland's social and military history.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for sharing knowledge to help run our in-person learning workshops. You will gain first-hand experience delivering curriculum-based workshops and activities to primary and secondary school learners. Based within the historic site of Edinburgh Castle, our learning programme is operated in partnership with The Museum of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, The Royal Scots Museum and The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Museum.

We offer themed school workshops, community sessions and creative activities both in-person and online via our Regimental Museums Learning Hub. You will assist the Learning Officer with the delivery of themed workshops which contribute to the successful running of our school learning programme.

This will involve presenting information to small groups of school pupils, object handling, and asking and answering questions. From time to time there may be opportunities to take part in other projects or activities, including assisting with community outreach sessions or drop-in craft activities. It is important you have strong communication skills and the ability to confidently present to young learners as this will be a key part of your role with us. You should also have an ability to work with groups of all ages and experiences, and an enthusiasm for working with children and/or young people.

This role will give you the chance to show off some creativity and develop organisational skills. A passion for history and some knowledge of British military history is helpful but not essential. We'll teach you everything you need to know about our Regiments once you've joined the team! Due to the nature of the role, the completion of an application to the PVG scheme is an essential requirement for this role. Successful applicants will be supported through this simple process and all costs covered by the Museum of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
