Full Job Description

Services. The role will be located within the contracts team and involve carrying out legal work on and in relation to (i) the University's externally funded research arrangements; and (ii) St Andrews Innovation Ltd, a subsidiary company of the University set up to help transform research into world-leading innovation by lending support and resources to nurture early-stage ideas and nourish their development. As part of this role, there will also be opportunities to carry out a wider range of legal work within the University, with a focus on contract negotiations and commercial matters, particularly as Legal Services within the University develops., In addition to the above, the Legal Counsel role will include:

  • assisting the Senior Legal Counsel with managing the team and allocating work
  • building and maintaining relationship with colleagues across the University
  • providing guidance and advice as required
  • working with the Chief Legal Officer, Senior Legal Counsel and members of the University's senior management team to provide expert advice and guidance on a range of contract and commercial negotiations across the University's diverse portfolio of interests.

    With demonstrable knowledge and experience suited to this role, you will be a team player with the ability to work and build strong relationships with colleagues.
  • You will be able to provide a sound and secure legal and commercial basis for the University's externally funded research work. This means, on a day-to-day basis, leading on/managing a caseload of contracts and negotiations. A self-starter, you will possess excellent attention to detail, communication and interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and be able to use your initiative in order to meet deadlines and service standards.
