Here at EDF Renewables we have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor to join the Solar, Storage and Private Wire (SSPW) Legal team to support the fast-paced development of EDF Renewables solar and battery storage projects. As our appointed Solicitor, you will become a core member of the SSPW legal team with particular focus on construction (both non-contentious and contentious), governance and transactional activities relating to the development of Development Consent Order, Electricity Act 1989 and sub-50MW solar and battery storage projects across the UK. You will work within the business to deliver pro-active and commercially relevant legal advice and form part of the wider EDF Renewables legal team. To be successful in this role you will possess very strong organisational skills, be able to prioritise and enjoy working in a team environment. You should be able to demonstrate flexibility, excellent business focus, problem-solving skills, have initiative and strong interpersonal skills. The role will involve travel between EDF Renewables offices in Edinburgh, Durham and London and on occasion other locations for example for training and business meetings., We will expect our Solicitor to support the work of the SSPW Team and also assist the Offshore Wind Team in dealing with construction claims and disputes. This role will involve legal and strategic advice at all stages of a development project to ensure the project is legally compliant, can secure the resources it needs (e.g. land and technology) and has an acceptable risk profile. You will also:
- Act as the principal legal advisor to projects on development legal matters, with a particular focus on claims.
- Act as a partner to project owners, providing timely legal and strategic advice.
- Ensure all project deadlines are met.
- Anticipate legal and business impacts of legal advice and recommendations, whilst providing commercially appropriate solutions to complex issues.
- Identify risks/mitigations for steering committees, Investment Review Boards and assisting projects to reach FID (Final Investment Decision).
- Instruct, receive and interpret external legal advice procured from specialist lawyers and other related services to be used by non-legal specialists in commercial teams.
- Contribute to the maintenance of key corporate and legal documentation, including precedent legal documents, database and physical signed contracts and EDF Group policies and procedures.
- Share knowledge of claims management across the legal team.
We are seeking an experienced candidate with circa 5 years post qualification experience, with previous exposure to working within the Renewable Energy sector or similar. - Experience of construction and claims in the context of development of energy projects.
- Experience of construction and development matters as part of transactional activity.
- Exposure to a variety of dispute resolution forums including adjudication, arbitration and court.
- Experience of project development and construction, operation and maintenance and other related energy work would be very beneficial. This is a fast paced environment so you must be accustomed to working in a similar environment.
