Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We are looking for a motivated, caring, pro-active individual to join our friendly and dedicated radiotherapy team of 21 Radiographers. Applications are invited from qualified band 5 and band 6 radiographers, and any student radiographers due to qualify imminently. You will be required to be HCPC registered.

We are a small, busy department, dedicated to delivering a high quality of care and service to our patients.  Our department currently houses 2 Varian Truebeams, 1 Siemens CT scanner, Mould Room facilities, Raystation planning system, and AlignRT.  We have successfully developed the use of AlignRT to enable us to be a completely tattooless department. We also have a dedicated radiographer review team who look after all of our patients and link in with Aberdeen for our Neurology cases.

As we are a small team you will be expected to gain competence throughout all areas of the department, and will be given opportunities to become more involved in areas where your interests become more focussed.

The department of clinical Oncology provides non-surgical cancer treatment to a population of approximately 260,000, covering Highland, the Western Isles and part of Grampian Health Board areas. It is one of 5 cancer centres in Scotland. The department currently treats around 700 new patients per annum. We cover all sites and techniques, currently expanding our use of SABR and developing our IGRT.

The unit provides clinical placements for therapy students from QMU in Edinburgh and GCU in Glasgow. Participating in their training is a requirement.

The Highlands offer an excellent quality of life. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty offering a range of leisure and sporting opportunities throughout the year. Inverness is compact but has all the amenities of a modern city, including well-established road, rail and air transport links.

Part- time hours may be considered.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
