Job Title: Locum Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly & Stroke Medicine

Department: Medicine for the Elderly & Stroke

Base: Western General Hospital, Edinburgh

Consultant only if applicable: 

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.  

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Western General Hospital 

The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic, supportive and motivated team of geriatricians and stroke physicians. Clinical activity will include in-patient care for patients within the stroke unit, hospital based stroke out - reach, contribution to the assessment and management of older people in the acute assessment frailty unit, and contribution to the weekday (Monday Thursday) and weekend consultant on call rota for Medicine for the Elderly at the Western General Hospital. There is opportunity to have a dedicated stroke outpatient clinic. There is some flexibility within job plan which can be tailored to the interest of applicants. For newly appointment consultants there is the opportunity of mentorship offered by existing experienced and supportive consultant geriatricians. Within the Western General site there is a passion for education, training, quality improvement and clinical research, therefore non-clinical interests will be encouraged. The successful candidate will have opportunities in the delivery of undergraduate teaching; supervision of junior doctors; clinical governance and quality improvement. The post is for a fixed term locum Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly & Stroke Medicine and will be for up to 9 PAs, of which 1PAs will be to support the out of hours rota. This is a less than full-time post; and we welcome applications from all interested candidate.
