Job Title:        Consultant in Public Health Medicine/ Consultant in Public Health  

Department:   East Region Health

Base:  102 West Port, Edinburgh EH3 9DN.

Consultant only if applicable:

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.  

Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, part time (32 hours per week) post based in Waverley Gate/West Port. 

We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant for the East Region Health Protection service for a fixed term period of 10 months.  This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the East Region Health Protection service, providing Consultant level expert Health Protection response across the East Region of Scotland, covering the NHS Board areas of Borders, Lothian, Forth Valley and Fife. As a competent person, under the Public Health, etc (Scotland) Act 2008, participate in the out of hours on-call duty rota for the full range of health protection and specialist public health emergencies.

You will be based at West Port, in central Edinburgh, with excellent travel links to surrounding areas.  The post is 0.8wte however applications to work 0.6wte will be considered.  

Work with colleagues across Scotland, as appropriate, to safeguard the populations health through the development of public health strategies and policies for communicable disease, reduction of vaccine preventable disease, infection control and environmental health. The post holder will be responsible for agreed areas of work within the health protection agenda, including the response to outbreaks.

The role will require a high level of tact, diplomacy and ability to provide leadership on complex and contested areas of the health protection response.  The post holder will advise, challenge and advocate to enable effective working across organisational boundaries. The post holder will be a strong advocate for public health and reducing inequalities and able to contribute at Consultant level to the wider work of the department and profession at local and national level.

Candidates must be included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice / GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration before the agreed start date) or be included in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
