About the role: Our team shape projects that connect communities and impact daily life for millions. Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and build new futures. The role can be based from any of our regional offices with travel required to the Maxim Park office in Motherwell. Role Purpose: To lead the successful delivery of mechanical design solutions within the BBK - Engineering Construction business. Due to the nature of our projects, all candidates must hold full working rights for the UK, and also be eligible for Security Clearance. Key Accountabilities: - Provide strong technical support and identify innovative and robust solutions and detailed designs with input from other engineering discipline leads. - Review and check vendor documentation for mechanical compliance with project specifications. - Liaise with Project Team to Ensure the mechanical solution for a project meets spatial and logistics requirement, and advise on delivery and
installation methodology. - Utilise BIM, where appropriate, and the supporting digital tool set to drive optimisation, safety and performance improvement throughout the whole project lifecycle - Interface with fabrication facility to ensure correct fabrication of project deliverables. - Ensure design risks are considered and prepare design risk assessments. Communicate residual design risks to others. - Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers.
Strong solid 3-D modelling skills with a modern package such as Revit or Solidworks/Inventor and the ability to produce drawings to BS:8888 standard for parts and assemblies with bills of materials. - An ability to produce hand calculations for mechanical structures and components from scratch using mathematical calculation software packages such as Mathcad. - Knowledge of finite element analysis and previous experience in its application to engineering structures. - Clear focus on collaboration and building relationships with other engineers and project teams to deliver cost effective and acceptable engineering solutions. - Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and write clearly and succinctly - Excellent IT Skills are desirable and Microsoft Office is essential. Detailed knowledge of codes of practice and other regulatory material. - A Degree in mechanical or structural engineering or equivalent suitable qualifications and or experience. - Previous experience in
multi discipline industrial projects such as Nuclear and or petrochemical. - Chartership or working towards Chartership
