Full Job Description

As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Focusing on mainly machinery and hydraulic systems for the test and trial before they are implemented at the nuclear waste processing and storage plant in Sellafield.

Day-to-day, you'll help with the general equipment installation, equipment and system testing including hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

  • Primarily working in the Civil Nuclear Dept assisting commissioning engineers

  • Working on a wide variety of mechanical systems and equipment including tests and surveys

  • Engaging in composite working including carrying out minor maintenance on equipment and fixtures

  • As part of a small team, you will be expected to work on tasks outside your trade


  • This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at Rosyth.

  • The ability to read engineering drawings, to interpret work instructions and be competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting

  • Demonstrable experience of working within high performing engineering teams focused on delivering engineering projects

  • Demonstrable experience of working on the removal, installation and overhaul of mechanical equipment with a particular focus on propulsion equipment, auxiliary systems & power generation equipment

  • Experience of working within marine engineering environment or another regulated industry


  • Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter
  • Level 3 mechanical based qualification or relevant experience


  • Security Clearance
    The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
