An opportunity has arisen for a part time Medical Secretary within the Mental Health Liaison Service for a fixed term of 12 months. You will provide a comprehensive medical secretarial service to the Liaison Service based within Carseview Centre.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. Medical secretarial experience/equivalent experience is preferred, along with audiotyping and word processing skills and have the ability to work effectively and efficiently in order to meet service demands.

Applicants should have a relevant secretarial qualification, e.g HNC, Business Administration or equivalent qualification/experience.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of clinical correspondence and will be required to be the first point of contact for their consultants patients. It is therefore essential that they are a good communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, previous experience in a customer care environment and good typing/keyboard skills are essential.

Duties will also include diary management, answering the telephone, incoming referrals and dealing with queries from a number of sources in a calm and pleasant manner.

The role would suit a hardworking and friendly person who can remain calm and pleasant at all times. You must also be able to use your initiative and be able to work unsupervised.

We also welcome staff who are currently NHS staff member who can job share their current post.

  • Maintaining the office systems for recording and tracing patient records within the department and assist the Records Department in locating patient records
  • Minute taking at meetings as requested by the consultants
  • Appropriately deal with all incoming referrals correspondence ensuring that those urgent enquiries are passed to the clinician promptly. This will include an element of autonomous decision making based on the clinicians normal practice.

Hours of work are:  16.5 hours Monday Friday (days and times to be confirmed)
