Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

In order to apply for this position you must have a Live PIN with the NMC.UK

The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday.

Are you a qualified Mental Health Nurse or Learning Disability Nurse? If so then why not consider a career in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS).

Our fantastic West Dumbarton multidisciplinary team have an opportunity for a band 5 nurse to join them on a full time, permanent basis. However due to service requirements across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde CAMHS community teams, there may be a requirement to rotate across the service. This would be undertaken in a planned and supported manner should it arise.

The team cover Monday Friday 9-5 and are based from the Acorn Centre, Vale of Leven Hospital, however flexible and agile working arrangements are available should travel be a concern.

We have a robust induction package available, so prior experience of working in CAMHS is not essential. Applicants should be able to demonstrate transferable skills for working with children, young people and their families and carers. All new starts will be supported to complete Essential CAMHS training.
We have excellent career opportunities within CAMHS for nurses, as well as tailored in-house academic teaching timetable and support via NES for 1st year development of new to CAMHS nurses before considering longer therapy courses.

Please refer to the attached Job Description for an overview of key roles and responsibilities.

Applicants should:

  • Be 1st level Registered Mental Nurse(RMN) or (LD) Registered Nurse with live NMC registration, have evidence of team working skills, excellent communication and organisational skills, an ability to work using own initiative and without direct supervision in the context of agreed tasks.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards children and young people and knowledge of factors which impact on mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Have an ability to fulfil main duties and responsibilities as outlined in job description.
  • The applicant should ideally also be a car owner and hold a full Driving License.

As part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clydes pre-employment checking for all appointed candidates, evidence of current NMC registration will be required prior to start date.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.
