Modern Apprenticeship – Business Administration (Health and Safety)


(SCQF Level 6)

35 hours per week (1 FTE)

2 Year Fixed-Term Contract

Salary Grade A -  £23,729 - £23,996 per annum pro rata

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated member of staff to work with us as a Modern Apprenticeship – Business Administration (Health and Safety) on a 2 Year Fixed term contract.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in health and safety within an educational setting. You will assist with a variety of different projects and ongoing work covering various areas of health and safety, including training, risk assessment, H&S management systems, COSHH and asset management.


In addition to the SCQF Level award in Business Administration, the right candidate will also have opportunities to complete industry recognised health and safety qualifications from IOSH and NEBOSH.


The experience gained in this role could support a future career in health and safety, or many related fields.


Job Purpose    

     

UHI Inverness is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

The purpose of this role is to provide administrative support to the Health and Safety department and through our Modern Apprenticeship programme and gain hands-on experience and develop a career in health and safety management whilst gaining a SCQF level 6 award in Business Administration.


Key Accountabilities


  • Support the gathering of information for Health and Safety Reports to college committees etc.
  • Establish a system to monitor Health and Safety performance indicators.
  • Respond to queries and requests for support from staff and managers, via Email, MS Teams or in person, signposting to existing resources or escalating to another member of the team as appropriate.
  • Provide support to college managers and staff in the use of Health and Safety systems. These currently include AssessNET (Accident Reporting, Risk Assessments and Auditing), Sypol (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Assessments), and iHasco (mandatory H&S Training).
  • Administer a rota of first aiders.
  • Provide administration support for PUWER Assessments and similar work.
  • Monitor and record the completion of tasks arising from audits and inspections
  • To service Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee Meetings, including managing agendas, papers, minutes and recording as required.
  • To develop new skills and gain knowledge and experience through the training programme.
  • Attend all training and development activities as required and complete all necessary studies to achieve a qualification.
  • Provide assistance during emergency evacuations.

Working Requirements


  • This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week.
  • The post will be based at 1 Inverness Campus but may be required to visit other UHI Inverness locations from time to time.
  • The post holder may occasionally be required to work outside normal college opening hours.

 

Flexibility


In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties resulting from organisational change, restructuring or temporary reassignment of work, within broad parameters limited by the grading of the post.
