Full Job Description

INTERNAL APPLICANTS MUST APPLY VIA MYSELF

Apprenticeships play an important role in our organisation and provide people in our communities with a route into a challenging and rewarding career with North Lanarkshire Council.

We aim to be a true reflection of the communities we serve, which is why encouraging talent from all backgrounds to join North Lanarkshire Council is important to us. We’ve found that Apprenticeship opportunities are one of the very best ways to equip people with the skills they need to succeed. You’ll be able to make a difference for our communities doing work that really matters.

What’s the role?

This initial 12-month apprenticeship will help you understand how housing operations functions and their role in maintaining and repairing housing within North Lanarkshire Council and supporting our communities.

As part of this apprenticeship, you’ll undertake an SCQF Level 6 in Housing and Chartered Institute of Housing Level 2. You’ll also gain valuable experience within a Housing Property environment, assisting Technical Officers to maintain Council housing stock including multi-story tower blocks, sheltered complexes and dispersed temporary accommodations. You will also gain experience of working with the public in a community setting. This Apprenticeship would appeal to anyone who is interested in property maintenance within communities.

This apprenticeship may lead onto a further 2-year training programme, where you will be situated within Enterprise & Communities Services, working towards completing an HNC in Construction Management

What do I need?

You don’t need to have any previous experience although you should have English and at least three other qualifications (Band A-C) at National 5 level or above. We look for Apprentices who can help us deliver our exciting ambition and plans for North Lanarkshire. During the selection process we’ll look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you’ll need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, be pro-active and show willingness to learn.

In accordance with Government Guidelines, you’ll need to be aged 16-24 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship) or if you are disabled or care experienced, you’ll need to be aged between 16-29 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship).

This is a temporary position until August 2026.
