The Opportunity

ScotRail operate 362 Stations throughout Scotland serving over 64 million customers a year. In assisting our customers experience a seamless journey while using our services, the Systems Field Engineering Team support over 10 thousand assets across our stations delivering Security, Customer Information and Retailing Services.

As an apprentice Systems Field Engineer, your day-to-day activities will involve learning about and supporting our wide range of systems across our stations to maintain an operational network. This includes tasks such as installation, commissioning, fault finding and repair, preventative maintenance, and enhancement/renewal projects on CCTV, Passenger Information Screens, Help Points, Public Address Systems, Door Access control, Ticket Kiosks, Booking Office Retailing Equipment, Smart Ticketing, Gatelines, Electrical, and Data Networks.

As part of your role, you'll learn to install, repair, and support our systems, while assisting the engineering team in upholding our high standards across the ScotRail Network.

The Person

To follow health and safety requirements and regulations and funding criteria, this apprenticeship is open to people aged 17 to 24 and people up to age 29 who identify as having a disability or who are, care experienced.

Whether you're coming straight from school, further education or are already in employment, we would love to hear from you.

As a minimum applicants hould have achieved qualifications at SCQF Level 5 (or above) in Maths, English and Physics or Chemistry. Other relevant experience such as a Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering or National Qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline.

You will be required to travel to and from college.

Candidates should have:

* An interest in working in engineering.

* A willingness to learn.

* A willingness to complete a 4-year apprenticeship.

* A willingness to attend regular reviews to discuss your progress and development.

* A willingness to attend internal training (and external training if required) and taking responsibility, with support, to collect the evidence required for your SVQ Portfolio.

What can you expect from your apprenticeship?

You will progress through a Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering over a 4-year programme. Your time will be divided between attending college and gaining real life workplace experience with ScotRail.

As well as gaining a broad range of technical and professional knowledge and experience, you will also gain academic and vocational qualifications such as:

* Performing Engineering Operations (PEO2)

* Relevant vocational qualification

* Relevant NC qualification

* You also may have the opportunity to progress onto an HNC.

Selection Process

Selection process: Initial stages of the recruitment process may involve assessment and interview. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical questionnaire. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six-month probation period. Training initially involves attendance on our virtual Induction Training Programme.
