Job Introduction The Modern Slavery and Ethical Trading Senior Manager, Sustainability is responsible for Ethical Trade controls across the BBC. Managing and overseeing our end-to-end ethical trade processes and policies across our organisation and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. We are looking for someone to drive improvements aligned to the BBC risk profile and framework, implementing controls to protect the BBC brand, and ensuring we are always doing the right thing for our audiences. The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring compliance with laws and regulations in the UK and internationally and maturing levels of controls to reduce risk. The Team: This role is embedded in the Group Sustainability team which is responsible for setting out Group strategy and policy for sustainability on behalf of BBC Commercial and Public Service globally. The role interacts directly with the procurement team and internal partner functions (including but not limited to BBC Studios, QRA and Legal), external bodies and suppliers., As the Modern Slavery and Ethical Trading Senior Manager, Sustainability you will:

  • Develop and implement enhanced ethical trading strategies and policies in line with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage our regulatory requirements related to ethical trade, including but not limited to our compliance with the Modern Slavery Act, and stay abreast of changes in regulation which may impact our program.
  • Agree key metrics and KPIs to track and monitor risk
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including procurement, risk and our contract manager community to integrate ethical trade considerations in our purchasing and risk management processes
  • Develop and own BBC Ethical Trading Policy and annual Modern Slavery Statement
  • Report on a regular cadence to Danielle Mulder, Director of Sustainability.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices in ethical trade through external research and peer networking and incorporating them into the BBC risk management and ethical trade strategy.
  • Provide guidance and training to relevant stakeholders on ethical trade principles and practices
  • Build and maintain relationships with external organizations and industry groups to stay informed about emerging ethical trade issues and initiatives
  • Participate in ethical trade-related conferences, workshops, and events to enhance knowledge and network with other professionals in the field.
  • Support the implementation of ethical trade risk management tools within our supply chain in collaboration with procurement.
  • Oversee our supply chain auditing processes

    Essential must have relevant experience of managing ethical trade processes and policies across operations and supply chain within the UK and internationally.
  • Essential must have experience in managing compliance with relevant laws and regulations including but not limited to the UK Modern Slavery Act.
  • Proven track record in ethical trade engagement and change management, ideally within a public sector organisation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to influence at a senior level and inspire others with the ability to use data to aid storytelling and drive change.
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, drive and commitment, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a changing environment
  • Experience of preparing reports, presentations and papers on ethical trade programmes, with the ability to convey complex information in simple terms
  • Gravitas to influence senior stakeholders across the BBC and within our Supplier ecosystem
  • A strategic thinker, capable of developing and implementing strategy and vision over the short, medium and long term; experience in driving sustainability strategy within large, complex companies

    Salary: anticipated range £60,000 - £65,000pa plus London Weighting (£5,319pa), depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. We're happy to discuss flexible working.
