Full Job Description

This is a high profile and exciting role that sits in our People and Capability Group. It is likely that the responsibilities of the role will evolve alongside our modernisation priorities, but some activities will likely include:

  • Ensuring that the vision for A Modern Civil Service that is skilled, innovative and ambitious is embedded in DWP across the whole organisation, including by taking responsibility for an extensive network of change champions in the business.

  • Support the DWP plan fordelivery of five cross government change priorities, which are Capability, Place, Innovation, Digital and Data and Delivery.

  • Working with DWP leaders to set and achieve our own priorities that align to wider cross-government priorities.

  • Engaging stakeholders across the organisation to understand what progress is being made against those priorities, providing constructive challenge and helping to unblock challenges where they emerge. Work with internal communications to ensure the language of A Modern Civil Service is adopted across DWP.

  • Providing assurance to senior leaders in DWP that we are meeting priorities and our commitments including by issuing a regular report to the DWP Executive Team.

  • Briefing senior leaders on the full range of modernisation priorities and drafting relevant material as required.

  • Manage and deliver other projects as required and act as a leader within the wider team and People and Capability Group., The written sift will be conducted using evidence from your CV and Personal Statement and will be assessed against the Key Criteria within the advert.


  • In the event of a large number of applications we will use the Lead Criteria (Strategic thinking: evidence of creating, working alongside or implementing business strategies in a complex and/or large organisation. Able to translate strategic priorities into clear objectives and action plans) to initially assess your application during the Sift stage. Candidates who pass the initial Sift may be progressed to a full Sift or direct to interview.

    Interview

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview. This will be a video interview. The interview panel will be a minimum of two people. The interview will assess: Behaviours and Strengths.Theinterview aims to be more of a conversation exploring the candidates capability for the role.

    To help you prepare and settle into the interview you will be sent the behaviour questions in advance of the interview, 5 days prior to your interview. These questions should be treated as confidential. The interview panel may ask you other questions which will not be shared in advance, including follow-up questions, and those about your strengths.

    Candidates will be asked further probing questions to determine suitability for the role.
