We are looking for a Neurosurgical Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our friendly team at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. We are seeking to recruit an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with expert knowledge and skills in modern neurosurgical techniques and the application of specialist nursing skills. The post holder will be an integral member of the Neurosurgical department management team and will be required to be competent and able to lead in all service areas, providing expert knowledge and specialist technical advice and support to junior staff and other professional groups. There is also a requirement to contribute to the Neurosurgical medical middle grade bleep rota.

Candidates who do not meet the Advanced Nurse Practitioner criteria are welcome to apply for the trainee role and will be fully supported to undertake the required education and supervised practice to develop the competence to work as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.  Annex 21 Para 2 (i) of the Agenda for change terms and conditions will apply until successful completion of the ANP training programme.

Neurosurgical services are provided for the population of Tayside and North East Fife. The primary tasks of the ANPs are to diagnose, treat and manage patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Neuroscience nursing encompasses the entire nervous system, and neurosurgery can include brain surgery, spinal surgery and neurological trauma. The ANP team practice holistically and work in partnership with the patient.  Due to the specialist knowledge

The post holder will be required to have attention to detail, and an ability to manage complex and stressful situations with calm efficiency.  They will be required to manage the workload of scheduled and unscheduled care in the department on a day-to-day basis ensuring the delivery of safe and efficient care . The post holder is expected to be a dynamic individual who is adaptable, confident with change and able to deliver outstanding patient care.

Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland with a population of approx 148,270. Currently undergoing a large scale riverside re-development, this vibrant university city has a well established art scene, boasting the internationally renowned Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and the Victoria & Albert Design Museum. There are excellent transport links both north and south, as well as easy access to the rugged north east coastline of Fife and Angus, and the mountains of Highland Scotland.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
