An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Clinical Assessment Team at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Services (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland.

As part of a dedicated Allied Health Professional (AHP) Therapy team the post holder will work mostly as an independent practitioner in assessing eligibility for the Blue Badge Criteria. They will be a member of the wider Clinical Assessment Team providing advice and support as required. The post holder will take an active clinical role using a high level of autonomy and clinical reasoning against a set of clear criteria. They will be responsible for maximising service provision, including the delivery of safe and effective clinical practice in conjunction with the Team Lead. The post holder will be expected to participate in SMART Services wide initiatives, including Quality Improvement, Health & Safety and Clinical Governance.

The post is part-time, preferably for 3 days per week (22.5 hours) but subject to service needs consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work between 2.5 to 3 days per week.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
