This post is fixed term for 12 months.  The post will be based at Waverley Gate but will change to Westport December 2024.

This is an exciting position within the directorate of Public Health and Health Policy based in the office at NHS Lothian, Waverly Gate, Edinburgh (please note we will be relocating to the NHS for Education Building at West Port, Edinburgh by the 2nd December 2024). The Post holder will work as part of the East Region Health Protection Team which covers health protection for NHS Lothian, Borders, Fife and Forth Valley.  The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of Consultants in Health Protection Nurses and the admin support to provide the operational response to the prevention and control of communicable diseases and environmental hazards impacting on health of the population of the East Region.

You will work as an essential member of the team to provide a robust response to the control of communicable disease. You will work collaboratively with wider public health teams and external key stakeholders such as Environmental Health Officers and Infection Prevention and Control Teams. You will be expected to deliver across a range of health protection activities including: service planning; development and implementation of policies, protocols, and guidelines; and the provision of evidence based advice to patients, communities, healthcare teams and other professionals. After a period of induction you will take part in the Out of Hours Public Health rota to help provide this response over a twenty four hour period.

You will need to be a confident communicator who is able to work both independently and as part of a diverse team. You will be a Registered Nurse, with significant post registration experience, including clinical experience ideally in a related discipline. Experience in infection control, infectious diseases, or an area of public health would be beneficial.  

The service runs from 08:00 18:00 Monday to Friday and there may be times that you are required to work Saturdays and Sundays.
