Full Job Description

Admissions unit 1 is based within phase 3 of Victoria Hospital. This department consists of 37 inpatient beds. Admissions unit one receives acute medical patients who require assessment from G.P.s, A&E and clinics.

We are looking for a Health Care Support Worker to join our new team to assist the nursing staff in maintaining a high standard of care and an organised, clean environment, supporting patient flow through the department and onto other clinical areas. We need your commitment to ensure the patient journey is a positive experience.
You must have an interest in acute medicine, preferably with some experience or a good knowledge base of medical conditions and be willing to carry out venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring and base line monitoring; training for this can be supported when facilities are available.

You must have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads in this busy and demanding unit. You must be a team player who can be flexible with all shift patterns to meet the needs of the service. Having IT skills is also advantageous.
Knowledge of infection control precautions and health and safety would also be positive attributes.

Although the department is a very busy working environment it provides an excellent opportunity for learning new skills and the ability to develop in the role.

This post has various hours available; hours per week are predominantly worked over 3 weekdays/nights with weekend working.

If successful in your application, you will be offered the opportunity to undertake an SVQ2 or SVQ3 (dependent on band) in Health and Social Care, approximately 9 months after taking up post. It is expected that you complete this qualification, which will be fully funded by NHS Fife. Your Line Manager will provide you with more information once you are in post

For informal enquiries contact  Senior Charge Nurse Lisa Stokoe on 011592 643355 ext 21808 or lisa.stokoe@nhs.scot  or Christina Fleming on ext 22377 or christina.fleming@nhs.scot.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  Your offer/contract of employment will therefore reflect the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Hiring Manager.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
