This is an opportunity to join a flagship project at an exciting time, Penguins is a brand new FPSO, the first in Shell UK since 2001. The successful candidate will gain experience in FPSO offshore hook-up and commissioning, Start-up Ramp-Up (SURU) and will be part of team driving towards creating a generative culture.

As a Penguins O&M technician, you will be part of a team that delivers a safe, reliable, and sustainable asset through the offshore hook phase of the project and beyond 1st oil. You'll encourage and embed a culture where innovation, flexibility, and reflective learning is considered normal practice whilst ensuring multiskilling is at the forefront of everything we do. Operations, maintenance, and marine activities will be executed with a 'one team' mentality.

PENGUINS Operations & Maintenance Technician

  • The successful candidate will have experience as a multiskilled O&M Technician, experience in commissioning is advantageous but not essential.

  • Penguins rotation is 2/3 aligned with SOV facilities

  • Vendor training will be required across various locations in the UK & Europe - flexibility is essential.


  • What's the role?

    The Penguins FPSO frontline team consists of multiskilled techs where all technicians will carry out cross discipline activities within their competence and capability. There will be a big focus on a "one team" culture and all techs will float between maintenance, operations, and marine departments. The O&M techs will prepare and execute maintenance to sustain the Asset's Technical Integrity, reliability, and availability in accordance with Shell best practice and HSSE standards. The role will consist of but is not limited to:

  • Execution of maintenance within your base discipline (i.e. Instruments)

  • Operation of systems within all areas of asset (Hydrocarbons, utilities, power and marine)

  • Operate, optimize, and safely manage equipment in line with the operating procedures to support overall facility delivery on production targets and ensure losses are minimized. Implement "find small, fix small" working

  • Execute maintenance as per the maintenance execution plan

  • Carry out fault finding on various process equipment

  • Upskill their current competency profile to be able to execute cross discipline activities

  • Successful candidates will hold or be willing to work towards TCI (Technical Custodian Instruments)

  • Technicians will work in maintenance and/or operations roles, requiring a high degree of flexibility to change between the two depending on the needs of the Platform.


  • What we need from you

    We are looking for people to demonstrate excellent safety leadership and behaviors, embracing the Penguins Charter and inspiring the team to drive sustainable business and HSSE performance.

  • Trade qualification or HNC in a Instrument maintenance.

  • Candidates with dual trades are preferred (i.e. Instrument Maintenance and Operations) however not essential.

  • Embed & sustain a seafaring mentality across the Asset "Everyone cares for people & equipment" identify and drive improvement opportunities.

  • Fully capable to use the CoW (Control of Work) system (Permit Holder/Requester, Isolating Authority, RA)

  • Able to identify Safety Critical Elements within the maintenance system ensuring that they are maintained as per the performance standards

  • Understand the principles of management change and apply the MoC (Management of Change) process for appropriate change interventions taking into consideration risk, mitigation and HSSE issues

  • Competent in SAP system both in raising notifications and executing plan. Carry out planned, preventative, remedial and breakdown maintenance as directed by line supervisor.

  • Competent Authorized Gas Tester

  • Be a part of the Emergency Response Team

  • Fully understand POPMs (Platform Operation Procedure Manuals) and how to apply them to execute work safely

  • Be a part of a high performing team delivering Asset Integrity, SECE (Safety Environmental Critical Elements) work scopes as per plan.

  • Actively promote and embed multi-skilling, enabling cradle to grave execution "one team".

  • Champion the Learner Mindset through the use of the Time Out To Understand Process
