Authorised Officer/Technical Officer (Food Safety)

This is an excellent opportunity to join our dedicated food safety team, which plays an important role in public health protection in Aberdeenshire.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out various food law interventions in a range of food business establishments within Aberdeenshire’s geographical boundaries and will have the opportunity gain valuable experience in wider public health functions of Protective Services.

The candidate needs to be enthusiastic and motivated to help enhance the team. The base location is flexible, and job share arrangements may be available. Ideal candidates should be flexible in their approach to work, with the support from the existing team.

A knowledge of food safety law enforcement and/or food science would be an advantage however Protective Services is committed to training and development and will provide the necessary additional training to any successful candidate seeking new experiences and further qualifications.

It is essential that applicants hold a relevant Food Science qualification e.g., Food, Nutrition and Human Health BSc (Hons) an HND in Food Science or Food Technology or equivalent or have relevant experience of a similar role.

Applicants should also possess the Higher Certificate in Food Practice; however, it may be possible for the preferred candidate to work towards obtaining this qualification in post.

Knowledge of the application of legislation to ensure compliance would be beneficial. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and have good IT skills.

The post requires excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders including businesses, residents, council services and external agencies. The applicant requires to be flexible as there may be a requirement for some working out of normal office hours including weekends.

The service continues to develop new mobile ways of working practices to improve ways of working as the characteristics of the LA area demands such an approach.

The service demands flexibility to contribute to environmental health priorities as required.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

The post has a minimum requirement of one reference which must be your current or most recent employer.
