Full Job Description

BEAR Scotland are looking for Graduate Engineers or Technicians looking to further their engineering career in our Operations Department. BEAR Scotland currently manages, maintains and improves 1962km of Scottish trunk road including over 2000 bridges and structures through some of the most scenic, but challenging, parts of the country. The successful candidate, reporting to the Operations Manager will assist with day-to-day activities relating to the delivery of allocated work streams by the Operations Department. They will be responsible for the execution, measurement and inspection of a wide variety of schemes to technical standard, to programme and budget. They will also assist with winter, cyclical and emergency activities. Role includes:

  • Comply with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures that form part of the company's Integrated Management Systems.
  • Delivering allocated individual schemes on time and within budget.
  • Assist with effective monitoring and control of costs.
  • Assist with establishing good relationships with client, customers and other bodies.
  • Work with supervisors on the programming, delivery and measurement of schemes.
  • Planning of day-to-day allocated workload.
  • Assist with the drafting of appropriate risk assessments and method statements.
  • Assist with the development of Construction Phase Plans and Health & Safety Files.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with on site and document-based measurement ready for submission to the commercial team.
  • Assist with the delivery of winter maintenance.
  • Assist with depot development.
  • Assist with the delivery of the cyclic maintenance programme of gully cleaning, sign cleaning, grass cutting etc.
  • Inputting data into the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System (AMPS).
  • Assist the Operations Manager with fleet management.

    Qualification in a relevant civil engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant civil engineering documents (DMRB etc) and standards.
  • Successful candidate will be expected to work towards further qualification / chartered status.
  • Must be able to use design and office software as required.
  • Must be able to work to strict deadlines.
  • Must be commercially aware.
  • Must have a full approved UK driving licence.
