Tarff Valley Ltd is Scotland’s oldest Agricultural Co-operative, established in 1903 and has more than 1300 members. Tarff is an Agricultural Merchant supplying the rural community in Southern Scotland, Northern England, Ayrshire and Islay with a wide range of quality products and services. Tarff’s mission is to deliver consistent quality and value in products and services to its customers. The business positions itself as a ‘one stop shop’ and sells a full range of agricultural products including animal feed, fertiliser, seeds, anthelmintics, animal health products, hardware, clothing and footwear.


Tarff is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join the team.


You will be part of the Senior Management Team and report to the CEO. As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing all aspects of commercial operations across a multi-site business.


The Operations Manager oversees production, quality control, regulatory compliance and logistics, whilst maintaining outstanding levels of customer service. You will have a team of staff directly reporting to you, covering transport, compliance, feed stores and warehousing.  


Key areas of responsibility:

  • Warehouse Management – Develop an efficient stock control, stock rotation and stock taking system to help reduce waste and damage to stock. Lead and mentor the team so they provide an excellent cost-effective service.
  • Health and Safety – Create and enhance a people focused safety culture.
  • Transport - Manage transport logistics.
  • Quality Standards/Regulatory Compliance - Ensure regulatory compliance is met and adhered to including safety, legal and industry trade assurance standards.
  • Company Asset Management – Manage maintenance, service, repair and renewal of equipment and buildings, working within budget controls.
  • Management of company fleet vehicles
  • Manage utility contracts across all sites

In addition to the day-to-day operations, the Operations Manager will play a key role in managing capital expenditure projects and the measurement and improvement of emissions, carbon footprint and waste.

  • Excellent IT skills
  • Project management experience
