Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our in-house Orthotics team at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.  This is a unique opportunity to develop your clinical skills, in the fast-paced setting of the largest acute hospital in the Scottish Highlands.

The Orthotics Team comprises around 10 staff, including Orthotists, Orthotic Assistants, Technicians and Administrative support. Orthotic devices are manufactured in house where possible, and the role will involve rectification of plaster casts and CAD-CAM modelling.  The Orthotists work closely with our technical team, to ensure devices are manufactured to the highest standard.

As part of a small team, the clinical caseload is varied, with the opportunity to develop skills in all areas of Orthotics.  We encourage a close working environment with other clinical specialities, with Orthotists regularly attending multidisciplinary clinics and joint working with other AHPs.  All paediatric patients in the health board are seen by the service, therefore this makes up a significant proportion of the caseload.

We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking, and driven Orthotist, who wishes to be challenged and supported to develop their skills.  The post-holder will benefit from protected CPD time and encouraged in career development.

Whilst we are seeking applications from experienced clinicians, we would welcome contact from clinicians at earlier stages in their career, who are encouraged to contact us to discuss their suitability for the role, and training requirements.

A relocation package is offered to the successful candidate.

For informal enquiries please contact stuart.harvey2@nhs.scot or

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
