Full Job Description

Hurcheon Mearns are delighted to assist our key client with their current open post. They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to manage the payroll process for both weekly and monthly pay cycles across their group. You will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, Auto-Enrolment, compliance with HMRC regulations, whilst also supporting the broader payroll team. This role is integral to maintaining the smooth and compliant operation of payroll systems and processes within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process accurate weekly wages and monthly salaries, ensuring payroll deadlines (including auto-enrolment) are met.
  • Administer all aspects of payroll including Tax and National Insurance (NI) calculations, statutory payments (maternity, paternity, adoption, sickness), student loans, benefits, and deductions.
  • Conduct regular internal audits and system checks to ensure accurate payments.
  • Manage employee data, including processing joiners, leavers, and other changes, collaborating with HR to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR regulations when handling employee data.
  • File pension contribution information to the appropriate pension schemes in a timely manner.
  • Oversee year-end processes such as P60s and assist in P11D submissions for employee benefits.
  • Provide explanations of payroll calculations and deductions to Line Managers and employees, resolving any payroll queries.
  • Advise the Company on changes to UK payroll tax rules and the payroll implications of employee benefits.
  • Produce and present payroll reports as needed, ensuring payroll sign-offs are compliant and timely.
  • Support the development and training of the Payroll/Accounts Assistant.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Excel, with prior experience using Iris Earnie payroll software being desirable.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Proven experience in payroll processing, preferably in a multi-payroll environment.
  • Strong understanding of HMRC regulations, RTI submissions, BACS payments, P60s, and Auto-Enrolment processes.
  • Excellent Excel skills, with the ability to analyse data and create detailed payroll reports.
  • Knowledge of Iris Earnie payroll software is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll information clearly to employees and managers.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

The role is office based (Hillington) and would be 3 days per week (Monday Tuesday and Wednesday).
