West Lothian Council alongside key agency partners have been supporting children and young people across West Lothian to develop their own Children`s Rights Network.  The Children`s Rights Network is   a newly developed space for children and young people across West Lothian to express their opinions  and be listened to in a rights respecting way.  On the 16th of January 2024, royal assent was granted for the UNCRC Bill meaning it’s now officially an Act, with most of its provisions coming into force on 16th July 2024.

Incorporation of the UNCRC into Scots law is a vital step to ensuring children and young people have their rights recognised and protected. This Act will help ensure that children’s rights are at the heart of policy and decision making.

In West Lothian we are committed to celebrating  our incredible young human rights defenders together. In order to continue to develop the Children`s Rights Network we are seeking application from interested parties to become our participation & engagement worker. This role will involve direct work with children & young people in both group and one to one settings with the key aims to:

  • nurture personal, social and emotional development;
  • actively involve children and young people in decision-making processes;
  • influence service development; and
  • Inform children and young people about their rights

We are keen to employ a diverse workforce that reflects the people of Scotland. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and particularly from groups currently under-represented, including people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities or from socio-economically disadvantaged

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the West Lothian Council
