Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a legal support role in our small, thriving law firm.


You will work alongside our existing personal law administrators to support the solicitors in our busy personal law (private client) department. Our personal law solicitors deal with a variety of legal work for individuals including wills, powers of attorney, executries, trusts and estate planning and they require a high level of support to ensure the smooth running of the department. 


Based in Randolph Crescent, in Edinburgh’s West End, Gibson Kerr has an established client base, specialising in personal law, family law and residential conveyancing and estate agency. The firm has four partners. The personal law department currently comprises a partner, a senior associate, an associate, a senior solicitor, a solicitor, a paralegal and four support staff.


Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

  • Administration and customer facing experience.
  • Computer literate – MS Word, Excel, Internet, email.
  • Audio typing and touch typing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Qualified to degree level.
  • Legal administrative experience, ideally within personal law 

Responsibilities:

  • To provide general administrative and client support primarily in the area of personal law, supporting the solicitors in the department.
  • To effectively use the case management system in production of legal documents and letters.
  • To follow office administrative procedures to ensure smooth and reliable flow of work through the office. 
  • To assist with reception duties at our office, as required.
  • To provide holiday cover and other assistance for other members of the support team across all departments, as needed.  

Conditions of Employment:

Working hours will be 8.30am till 5pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours a week). More may be required from time to time, on a voluntary basis. Overtime hours will be paid at the same rate as contracted hours. Flexible/hybrid working may be possible, to be agreed. 

Five weeks annual leave is given, plus five days’ public holidays: two days at each of Christmas and New Year and one day on Easter Monday.
