Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this position is 9am-5pm plus weekend working on a rota basis. The post holder will work a 5 over 7 day shift pattern and will be required to participate in weekend working and Public Holiday working. Part time applicants will be considered.

Are you a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician due to qualify and register with the GPhC in 2024 or a Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC who is looking for a new and varied role? We are looking to recruit a pharmacy technician to join our extensive pharmacy aseptic team. You will provide specialist aseptic dispensing pharmaceutical services to ensure the safe supply of intravenous medicines including:

  • cytotoxic chemotherapy
  • parenteral nutrition
  • and specialist Clinical Trial products, to neonatal, paediatric and adult patients across NHS GG&C line with current legislation, local and national policies.

There will also be opportunities to undertake qualifications such as the HNC and as a Final Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the largest acute hospitals in the UK and home to major specialist services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery, with state-of-the-art Critical Care, Theatre and Diagnostic Services. The Royal Hospital for Children is adjoined to the adult hospital and has 244 paediatric beds with a further 12 neonatal beds in the maternity unit. This hospital provides a large number of specialist services to the West of Scotland and the wider population of Scotland in addition to a full range of secondary care services including cardiology and cardiac surgery, renal and bone marrow transplantation. For a number of these services, the childrens hospital is recognised as the sole provider in Scotland.

As well as a drive for personal development, candidates should demonstrate personal values aligned with those of our organisation. Flexibility and good communication skills are essential as well as an ability to work as part of our friendly and progressive team. You must be, or about to be, registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain (GPhC) have a certificate in pharmacy services (or equivalent) and an SVQ level 3 in pharmacy services.
