Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for Physiotherapy graduates or existing Band 5 Physiotherapists to join a varied rotational scheme for Physiotherapists throughout Inverness and Ross and Cromarty. The rotation provides opportunities to gain experience in a broad range of specialties within acute hospital, intermediate care, out-patients, community hospital and domiciliary settings.

The successful post-holder will be required to rotate on a 4 monthly basis and will experience the specialties of Orthopaedics, Medical, Surgical/ITU, Rehabilitation/Stroke, Rheumatology, Community, Mental Health/Learning and Disability and MSK Outpatients.  Within these rotations, further experience can be gained in Hydrotherapy, Pulmonary and Vascular Rehabilitation, Prosthetics, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Occupational Health.

An emergency duty respiratory on-call service is provided on a rota basis.  Orthopaedic services both at Raigmore and the National Treatment Centre are delivered over 7 days and as such weekend working is required when on rotation in these areas.

Active continuous professional development, Turas and staff appraisal systems are in operation and new graduates will be supported to complete the Flying Start programme in their first year of practice.

Applicants must have current HCPC registration. Pre-registration candidates may be considered for short listing.  The ability to work independently and as part of a team of Physiotherapy staff in the provision of efficient and effective physiotherapy services is required as are excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Previous experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist and experience of supervising support worker staff are desirable.

Full driving licence is required with access to a car for work use being desirable.

NHS Highland serves a large geographical area with a population of 320,000. There are excellent opportunities to suit all interests and lifestyles with outdoor pursuits such as hill walking, mountain biking, skiing and paddle boarding within easy reach.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
