Full Job Description
An opportunity is available for a Policy Application Team Manager reporting to the Head of Engineering Policy.
The base location for this position will be agreed with the successful applicant, but there will be a requirement to work throughout the whole NGED company area.
The job purpose will be to:
To conduct independent checks on employees and contractors to ensure their compliance with company policies.
To provide checks on the content of policy and standards techniques
To provide policy application checks on the implementation of recent policy changes including ongoing review if compliance issues are identified.
To monitor trends and findings of non-compliance across the range of policy and standard technique documents and make relevant recommendations for improvements.
To provide KPI information to the wider business on independent checks undertaken, non-compliances identified and recommendations for improvements.
To develop annual policy application programmes for the independent checks.
Assisting policy authors to write and review policy as and when required by the Head of Engineering Policy.
Responsibility for the management and performance of a small team of policy application specialists.
Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities
Organising a programme of unannounced inspection visits covering all work activity types, locations, depots and working hours for themselves and the team.
Performing audit programme checks as required on implementation of specified policy
Executing and documenting compliance checks of and against NGED policies. The checks may be based upon company incidents or feedback from learning from proactive company compliance measures (e.g. site safety visits or Operational Audits) relevant to the activity under review
Intervening and safely bringing work to a halt where unsafe working practice is observed.
Debriefing operational teams on site in relation to any non-compliance observed or on areas for best practice adoption
Preparing and issuing reports on findings. Communicate effectively to describe findings to relevant managers (across the business from Executive to Line Managers). Agreeing, logging and classifying and the timeline for actions to address any shortcomings identified
To monitor report findings and ensure actions arising from these are effectively completed
Identifying opportunities for improving future policy and providing feedback to the policy owner as appropriate.
Developing and maintaining a list of the compliance items and actions to inform future compliance programmes based on risk.
Preparing monthly and quarterly reports to summarise work activity and findings.
Managing personal and team performance and productivity to maximise assurance visits.
Meeting with policy authors to review audit findings and enhance policy standards.
Providing update to company and staff side representatives on their findings.
A good technical understanding of Company policies and procedures and related safety requirements.
Currently holds or has previously held operational (SAP, AP) and non-operational competencies, including first aid, operational safety for working on and near HV systems as part of a working party, substation access, confined spaces, safety, health & the environment.
Practical experience working on and near the distribution network.
Understanding of auditing technique and principles (a relevant auditing qualification would be advantageous however if not held the successful applicant will be expected to undertake such qualifications).
Ability to autonomously plan, organise and manage a business wide programme within time and budget.
Good communication and interpersonal skills including report writing, presentation skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.
PC literate - Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word / Excel
Relevant safety management qualification or commitment to working towards a NEBOSH
You will be required to travel across all licence areas to complete your work You will be required to travel and so a valid driving licence is required.
