Full Job Description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join our Post Diagnostic Service (PDS) for dementia within Psychiatry of Old Age, Dundee.

The main responsibility for the successful applicant(s) will be to provide support, information and guidance to people with dementia and their carers/ relatives following their diagnosis of dementia. You will deliver a minimum of one years post diagnostic support to people newly diagnosed with dementia facilitating the Alzheimer Scotland 5 pillar model of support.  The role involves supporting others by helping them to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being and to empower and enable the person and their families to live well with dementia for as long as possible. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team working predominantly without direct supervision within various settings which could include the patients home, hospital and community-based facilities including the private sector.

The post holder is responsible for providing guidance and support to junior staff in the Post Diagnostic Support Team and for assisting with the promotion and ongoing development of the service within Dundee.

Previous experience of working with older people and the ability to relate purposefully and communicate effectively with the person with dementia is essential. An awareness of the 5 Pillar Model is essential.

Hours per week 37

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
