Full Job Description

  • Involved in the full phase of the design lifecycle, eg from conceptual design through to embodiment
  • Provide support to surveys and installations at customer site as required
  • Investigate tasks and prepare estimates for costing and timescales
  • Creating Models and Drawings for details and installations using CAD (CATIA v5) software
  • Creation of Bill of Materials
  • Checking of Engineering data and drawings for accuracy
  • Preparation of compliance evidence reports
  • Deliver tasks to project schedules and costs
  • Communicate task status when required
  • Prepare and lead technical design reviews
  • Liaise with internal departments and external customers as required

    Airframe mechanical design experience (ie Fabricated and machined component design)
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • CAD/CATIA essential (2D & 3D experience preferred)
  • Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office toolset (ie PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Good communicator to liaise with internal and external customers
  • Ability to adhere to processes and procedures
  • Desirable:
  • BAE146 experience desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of Airworthiness requirements and certification preferred but not essential

    As part of a Mid-Life Upgrade programme for the Atmospheric Research Aircraft, Mechanical Design support is required to develop and introduce a range of aircraft and science modification packages to the aircraft. The project is live' and is currently planned to be completed by March 2027. The role includes the opportunity to work alongside the Customer and third-party civil design organisations. Frequent visits to the aircraft at Cranfield and assisting the maintenance organisation during the embodiment of modification packages.
