Full Job Description

The role

Nova is looking for an Engineer with at least 3 years’ experience in an engineering role, ideally including both project engineering and mechanical design aspects, to support the technical delivery of their world leading marine energy projects. Work will combine both technical and organisational skills, supporting projects from concept all the way through to operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will be tailored to the experience of the successful candidate, and to ensure best fit within the engineering team. They will include:

  • Co-ordination of engineering design work-packages e.g. interface management, mass, cost and performance tracking, design and manufacturing documentation package creation/management.
  • Organisation and support of engineering aspects of the manufacture, test and installation phases, including working closely with manufacturers and contractors.
  • Working with the design team to develop product solutions to meet challenging cost and timescale constraints.
  • Working with project/production teams to help manage the engineering delivery of projects, including scheduling, budget, logistics, HSE and quality.
  • Preparing/reviewing and improving production documents (e.g. drawings, BOMs, specifications, procedures, quality improvements, test plans), in particular with regards to assembly, testing and commissioning.
  • Other engineering and company duties as required by the business.

Attributes

We are looking for applicants with the following essential attributes:

  •  At least 3 years’ experience within an engineering role.
  •  A combination of technical knowledge from a relevant engineering discipline alongside project engineering/organisational experience: Mechanical design, 3D CAD and drawing creation experience preferable. Applications from candidates with strong skills in other useful disciplines (e.g. fabrication, casting, marine operations, lifting, electrical, control) welcome.
  • Organisational skills, managing tasks and co-ordinating project team-members as well as suppliers and external contractors.
  • Positive and friendly personality, with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring timely and high-quality engineering output.
  •  Able to work flexibly and communicate well within a small, cross-discipline team.
  • Self-motivated and capable of meeting deadlines.
  • A keen interest in renewables and marine energy.
  • Relevant Engineering degree, or equivalent industrial-based experience.

Examples of other beneficial experience include:

  • Experience within a relevant industry e.g., marine, wind or marine renewable industry.
  • Engineering design or analysis, including using tools such as mechanical or electrical drawing/analysis software (preferably Inventor/E-Plan), MATLAB, Python etc.
  • Relevant manufacturing, logistics and lifting, or marine operations experience.
  • Good product cost optimisation and manufacturability knowledge.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Project.
  • System engineering or cross-discipline knowledge e.g., across some of structural, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, control systems, project management.

With a full order book, Nova is looking for a Project/Mechanical Engineer to drive the continued development of Nova’s tidal technology and scale-up of the business, helping us deliver on our mission.

Conditions, remuneration and benefits

Full time position, hybrid working, competitive salary based on experience, 5% employer pension contribution, personal health insurance and other benefits.

Annual holidays are 25 days per annum plus 8 public holidays.
