Museums Galleries Scotland is the National Development Body for the Scottish museums sector. We're here to support more than 400 museums and galleries, whether through strategic investment, advice, advocacy, skills development or other means. Intangible Cultural Heritage includes oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe, and knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts. The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in Scotland Partnership ('the partnership') supports safeguarding measures for ICH in Scotland. The partnership consists of Creative Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland (HES), Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS), and Traditional Arts & Culture Scotland (TRACS). MGS and TRACS are both accredited Non-Governmental Organisation advisors to UNESCO on ICH. The partnership has received project funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop communities of ICH practitioners and produce an online resource hub for ICH in Scotland: 'Intangible Cultural Heritage in Scotland - Protection Through Connection'. The project will offer a minimum of 5 funded opportunities for ICH practitioner communities and heritage or cultural organisations to collaborate to celebrate and safeguard an ICH practice with the aim of developing a comprehensive support system for ICH in Scotland. MGS is looking for a Project Officer who will coordinate the activity of the project partners, and support the development of lasting supportive relationships between communities of practice, and host heritage or cultural organisations. They will also help to identify and develop legacy materials from the project, to build a resource bank for the continued safeguarding of ICH in Scotland. The post will be based in and managed by MGS, but will work with colleagues across the partnership to support successful delivery of the project.

This role would suit someone with a passion for ICH and community engagement, with a good understanding of the heritage and cultural sectors in Scotland, particularly those which are specific to local communities; a competent and reflective communicator, with experience in partnership working and leading on the development of online resources., Essential:

• Demonstrable experience of community engagement, skills development and session facilitation with understanding of how to engage sensitively with communities
• Experience of communicating and engaging with others regarding Intangible Cultural Heritage
• Good understanding of the heritage and culture sectors
• Demonstrable knowledge of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO).
• Experience of developing and maintaining online web resources
• An ability to identify and prioritise key learning points
• Experience of effective relationship building and partnership working
• Excellent communication skills, demonstrating a variety of communication styles
• Excellent organisational/administrative skills
• Confidence across a range of digital platforms
Preferred:
• Qualification in culture/heritage or related subject appropriate to the post at SQA level 4 or above
• Experience of working with a range of cultural or heritage organisations and community groups.
• Experience of event management/support
• Experience of evaluating event activity
• Some knowledge of languages other than English, especially Gaelic, Scots, or BSL
• Experience of assessing project or funding applications
