Full Job Description

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven Regional Transport Partnerships, established by the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005.  As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, delivers projects directly and in partnership with others, and is responsible for preparation of the statutory Regional Transport Strategy for the west of Scotland.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Support Officer (People and Place Programme Community Fund) to join the People and Place Programme team within our wider Policy & Planning team. Across Scotland, the model for delivering active and sustainable travel behaviour change funding has changed as part of Transport Scotland’s wider Active Travel Transformation project. Funding is now provided directly to Regional Transport Partnerships to deliver initiatives across each region in Scotland. As a result, SPT is working to deliver a programme of interventions that will support people living and working across our region to make more of their daily journeys by walking, wheeling, and cycling, and to bridge the gaps that exist between those journeys and the public transport network with options that are more sustainable than traditional car use. As part of this programme for 2025/26, a supporting Community Fund has been established to provide funding for community level projects, allowing organisations who otherwise wouldn’t be capable of accessing or delivering larger programmes of work through the main programme to deliver key community level initiatives.

About the Role

The Project Support Officer (People and Place Programme Community Fund) will support the delivery and grant management of SPT’s 2025/26 People and Place Programme Community Fund, actively engaging with grantees to ensure successful delivery of a wide range of sustainable and active travel behaviour change projects being delivered with communities across the SPT region supporting people to make more of their daily journeys by sustainable means. The role will also support the development and delivery of future behaviour change programmes within the west of Scotland, including potential 2026/27 People and Place Programme Community Fund (subject to wider funding for the 2026/27 financial year).

About you

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience in a transport planning related subject/project management or demonstrable relevant qualification/HND/PG Dip. You will be a highly motivated individual with excellent organisational skills. Experience of working in grant delivery management and grant programme co-ordination is essential, ideally with experience in financial management and progress monitoring. Knowledge of the benefits of active and sustainable travel, and the importance of these in the context of the Scottish Government’s targets for transport and mode shift will be essential.

You will be an excellent communicator and be confident liaising and engaging with external stakeholders, particularly community level organisations. You must be capable of providing the support required to allow community organisations to deliver an extensive programme of active and sustainable travel behaviour change initiatives which achieve successful delivery and outcomes.

Full time hours will be 35 hours per week working Monday to Friday.   However, you may be required to undertake work outwith this norm to meet the responsibilities of the post.

Whilst you will be based at 131 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, SPT operate a temporary hybrid working pattern which allows 40% home working, ie 2 days per week Monday to Friday.

Please note, this position falls into the ‘low’ risk category under the Alcohol and Drugs policy and therefore is subject to for-cause testing procedures.

Benefits

Working at SPT comes with many benefits you can look forward to:

  • 33 Days Annual and Public Holiday Entitlement (pro rata to shift pattern)
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • SPT actively encourages learning and development and are committed to ongoing learning and development to support career progression
  • Employee Travel Pass Scheme - a Subway Smartcard to travel on the Glasgow Subway for free plus an additional card for a member of your household
