Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join Scottish Brain Sciences to be part of a multidisciplinary research team. It involves conducting a wide array of psychological assessments for ongoing studies at SBS and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in brain sciences while honing valuable skills.

To perform this role successfully, you will have experience of supporting and guiding participants through trial processes, administering neuropsychological assessments, and managing trial data complying with trial protocols. In addition, you will:

  • Undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of participants using standard psychological tests, including standardised, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with participants and study partners


  • Undertake specific assessments of participants in line with the protocol and as delegated by the investigator and monitor condition throughout their participation


  • Ensure all adverse events are appropriately recorded and reported


  • Complete the electronic case report form in a timely and efficient manner


  • Obtain any missing data and resolve queries with the clinical investigators and trials management office


  • In accordance with the Data Protection Act observe the confidentiality of participant information always


  • Communicate effectively with participants, the research team and other professionals as appropriate to ensure that the trial protocol and Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to


  • Provide ongoing information, advice and support to individuals participating in research studies and their study partners acting on any concerns raised in a timely manner


  • Support the delivery of various internal/external audits


  • Ensure the research studies are carried out efficiently and effectively whilst adhering to GCP guidelines and the EU directive


  • Quality and Risk, Health, and Safety Management

    You will be able to identify, assess, manage, and monitor risks within your area of responsibility and comply with and contribute to the development of policies, procedures and safe professional practice whilst adhering to relevant legislation, regulations, and standards. You will need to:

  • Collaborate with peers to continuously assess the program to meet the needs of the trial; this includes policies and procedures for compliance


  • Understand legal, health and safety standards for the business and ensure standards are met


  • Support preparation for site initiations, periodic monitoring and safety reporting


  • Commitment to stay up to date with relevant policies and procedures in a clinical trial environment


  • Understand and be compliant with trial protocols; data entry, quality checks


  • Administrative

    Work collaboratively with colleagues across Scottish Brain Sciences to ensure companywide adherence to policy is maintained and that professional standards regarding service user and data are handled appropriately.

  • Maintain study site files and documentation in line with GCP


  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all relevant information is documented in source data worksheets and participant medical records if applicable


  • Provide service reports/data as required


  • Take a pro-active approach with all communications with internal and external stakeholders


  • Interdisciplinary collaboration, be an articulate communicator and be familiar with systems-based practice.


  • Contribute to reports or presentations as required by the principal investigate or chief investigator

    BSc/BA in the relevant field (psychology/nursing)


  • 3+ years in a healthcare or social care setting


  • Self-motivated, and proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team


  • Strong organisational skills


  • Uphold the highest business ethics and personal integrity


  • Demonstrable professional demeanour


  • Experience of working with clinical rating scales


  • Knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice principles desirable


  • Background of working with midlife and elderly populations a bonus

We're looking for a Psychometrist to help guide participants through the clinical trial processes and support our growing team based at our Aberdeen site.
