Job Description

Provide supervisory, technical, administrative (and other) support in the operation of the council’s ‘in-house’ passenger transport fleet, providing Mainstream and ASN home-to-school, Social Work, DRT dial-a-bus and other passenger transport services.  Undertake passenger and pupil surveys, and monitor usage of public transport and school transport services. Provide evening and weekend support to the driver team to ensure the delivery of services. Produce, monitor, maintain and update public transport infrastructure, information, and other passenger facilities. Assist in the collection and delivery of buses for servicing or re-allocation. Assist in the deployment of spare buses and relief driving staff Training driving staff on ticket machine operation. Monitoring depot departures. Relief driving duties when required

 

Requirements

Assist in the Management operation of ‘in- house’ Mainstream and ASN home-to- school, Social Work, DRT dial-a-bus and other passenger transport services.

Undertaking passenger and pupil surveys, operator and driver compliance checks at schools and on school bus routes.

Producing detailed survey reports and passenger analysis reports with recommendations where appropriate.

Assist the Transport Co-ordinator to manage the allocation of Minibus Driver duties to ensure effective service delivery.

Monitoring of public transport infrastructure.

Training drivers on electronic machine operation.

Distributing public transport information and promotional material.

Providing assistance in other transportation matters.

Providing relief driving duties as and when required

 

The Individual

Demonstrable level of practical experience in the transportation industry.

Standard grades or equivalent in English and Maths.

Effective literacy and numeracy skills in order to complete relevant paperwork.

Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision and as part of an effective team.

Aptitude for attention to detail.

Ability to prioritise tasks.

Ability to record information accurately.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office inc Word and Excel.

Ability to investigate issues and prepare detailed reports on findings.

Ability to deal effectively with other members of staff, members of the public, contractors and their representatives.

Ability to follow a programme of tasks reporting back as required.

Self confident and Self motivated.

Ability to carry out routine bus stop and bus shelter maintenance and repairs.

Ability to perform overt and covert surveys.

Effective communication and interaction with members of the public.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Ability to actively listen to people’s views and communicate successfully with a wide range of contacts.

Willingness to accept direction/delegation.

Ability to work outside in all weathers.

Ability to lift and bend in order to perform tasks related to maintaining and repairing bus shelters including preparation, repair and repainting, cleaning up debris following vandalism and replacement of glass and polycarbonate sheets.

Ability to work outwith normal office hours when required for survey work.

Ability to work at heights where required.

Ability to work in a shared office.

Flexibility to meet the needs and demands of the service.

Ability to work in different offices dependent upon service requirements.

 

Temporary for 1 year

Starting Salary: £25,692.55

£13.63 per hour

36.25 hours per week
