Peace Recruitment's client are a leading residential and commercial construction company with a solid reputation for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. As part of our continuous growth and commitment to excellence, they are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quantity Surveyor, on a freelance contract, to join their dynamic team.


Projects are predominantly based in Edinburgh & Lothians, and range from £250k to £10million in value.


Job Description: As a Quantity Surveyor with this successful construction and residential company, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of your residential projects. Your primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:


  • Cost Estimation: Accurately estimating the costs of materials, labor, and equipment required for each project, considering market rates and project-specific requirements.
  • Budget Management: Preparing and managing project budgets throughout the construction process, monitoring expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality.
  • Tendering: Preparing tender documents and participating in the tendering process to select reliable subcontractors and suppliers while maintaining cost competitiveness.
  • Contract Management: Administering contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating terms and variations, and ensuring compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Financial Reporting: Preparing timely and accurate financial reports, cost analysis, and forecasts to provide key insights for project stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and proposing mitigation strategies to minimize the impact on project costs and timelines.
  • Quality Control: Collaborating with project managers and site teams to ensure that all construction work meets the required standards and specifications.
  • Value Engineering: Identifying value engineering opportunities to enhance project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Post-Project Evaluation: Conducting post-project evaluations to review project performance, costs, and learnings for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in residential construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in quantity take-off and cost estimating software.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Membership with a relevant professional association is preferred (e.g., RICS, CIQS).

This is a temporary contract for up to 6 months, with potential extension due to further projects. Rate of pay, per hour or day, is negotiable £260 - £300 per shift, dependent upon experience.
