Full Job Description

Harmeny Education Trust is a charitable organisation providing therapeutic care and education to children who have experienced early years trauma through abuse, neglect and family disruption, referred from all over Scotland. We currently work with children and young people aged 5-18, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis.

Our core service, Harmeny School, comprises:

· An education service, which includes an outdoor learning team.

· A care service, with five residential cottages and one day service cottage.

· Support services, made up of a therapies manager coordinating evidence-informed approaches for children and young people, finance, estates, catering and domestic services, fundraising, IT, HR, learning and development, and admin teams.

Harmeny is committed to achieving the highest possible standards of care and education and to continuously improving our work. We have recently developed a practice framework, The Harmeny Way, which describes the unique combination of therapeutic approaches used to guide our work and ensure consistent practice with children and young people placed with us.

We are looking for a Residential Child Care Worker (Nights) to join our Care team on a part-time (0.64 FTE) employed basis. The post holder will be responsible for all childcare needs through the night.

The successful candidate will work an average of 137 nights per year on a rota basis, on a six nights on / 10 nights off pattern, 10pm-7.30am. There will be opportunities to work additional night shifts to cover for colleagues (e.g. holidays) but this will not be compulsory.

Applicants should be registered, or will need to register within the first six months of employment, with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in line with the requirements for residential child care workers.

We will consider experienced and inexperienced applicants, with or without the necessary qualifications. We have a robust induction to support staff to work at Harmeny, and we will provide full funding and support for staff who need to undertake qualifications for their role.

Please see our careers page for an outline of all the benefits on offer, and what makes Harmeny such a great place to work.

The remuneration for the post is dependent on qualifications in relation to the SSSC registration requirements for Residential Child Care Workers, and can be as follows:

  • £17,998.72 plus a nights allowance of £2,879.80 per annum (unqualified)
  • £18,959.36 plus a nights allowance of £3,033.50 per annum (part-qualified)
  • £20,771.20 to £22,787.20 plus a nights allowance of £3,323.39 to £3,645.95 per annum (qualified)

The part-time salary is calculated based on a full-time equivalent salary that ranges from £28,123 to £35,605 per annum.
