About SPT

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all.

SPT is currently delivering a £288m Subway Modernisation Project to improve the customer experience and secure this iconic public asset for future generations. The new Subway trains have entered service and work on Subway Modernisation continues.

We are seeking a Rolling Stock Asset Engineer who will be responsible for the asset management of the new Subway fleet of trains and all Subway assets associated with their maintenance, and all other rail mounted plant.

This a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role in the management and development of an exciting and iconic asset throughout its lifecycle, from the development and implementation of maintenance and overhaul plans through to the achievement of challenging performance targets.

About the Role

As a member of the Engineering Team, you will utilise your engineering and management skills in a busy and multi-disciplined operational environment. As lead engineer you will be responsible for rolling stock ensuring that all standards, procedures and instructions are developed and implemented in line with SPT’s safety and performance standards.  You will be responsible for ensuring that all requirements and duties of the Safety Management System are discharged for rolling stock assets. You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as taking responsibility for working independently across various workstreams.

You will be involved in a wide range of different activities, including the development of effective asset management strategies, driving reliability growth, identifying and implementing innovation and technology-based performance improvements and also managing the technical aspects of third-party parts and services related to rolling stock assets. You will have the unique opportunity to be involved in a range of diverse and exciting office and site-based activities, as SPT looks to deliver sustainable and cost effective solutions.

About you

The successful candidate will have relevant educational and professional qualifications, as well as having experience of working in an operational, multi-disciplinary engineering and/or maintenance environment. It is essential that you have knowledge of engineering principles relating to maintenance and overhaul requirements for rolling stock or similar asset types. A team player with the drive to succeed, you will have strong communication, problem solving and numeracy skills, and be confident dealing with internal and external stakeholders whilst making difficult decisions. Experience in the use of MS Office Suite and AutoCAD would also be advantageous.

Full time hours will be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday.
