Full Job Description

Solicitor (2+ years PQE) - Real Estate / Rural Business

Location: Edinburgh
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role:
Are you a solicitor with a passion for Scotland’s rural landscape and a drive to make a real impact in the sector? We have an exciting opportunity for a talented solicitor with 2+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) to join our leading Real Estate team in Edinburgh, focusing on Rural Business. This role offers the chance to immerse yourself in a diverse and ever-evolving area of law, providing expert advice to a variety of clients, including estates, farming businesses, developers, and community bodies across Scotland.

What You’ll Do:
You’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to:

  • Facilitating the purchase and sale of estates, farms, forestry, and rural land.
  • Advising on rural development opportunities, such as residential, renewables, telecommunications, and quarrying.
  • Providing ongoing legal management support to estates and rural businesses, including handling sales of land and residential properties, advising on land reform, trustee/partnership conveyancing, and creating title conditions.
  • Navigating agricultural holdings in both contentious and non-contentious scenarios, including tenancies and pre-emptive rights.
  • Addressing complex title queries like boundary disputes and access issues.
  • Assisting with voluntary registration projects for challenging titles.
  • Engaging in commercial and contractual work related to land use and business structures, including overage agreements.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for rural property work and a deep interest in the unique challenges of the sector.
  • Proactive client care—you understand the needs of our clients and strive to deliver the highest level of service.
  • Responsibility & ownership—you’ll manage your own transactions and provide trusted advice with confidence.
  • Continuous learning mindset—you keep your legal knowledge up-to-date, always eager to deepen your understanding of emerging issues.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear communication skills, adaptable to different audiences, from clients to colleagues.
  • Research and analytical skills, capable of interpreting and applying technical legislation.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Self-motivated, organised, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Commercially minded, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for clients and the business.
  • A commitment to Brodies’ core values of Courage, Character, Care, Collegiality, and Collaboration.

What’s in It for You?

  • Work with a supportive team in a firm that values your growth and development.
  • Enjoy the opportunity to take on challenging and varied work, with clients who are leaders in their fields.
  • Be a part of a firm that offers flexibility and a collaborative culture, helping you build a successful and fulfilling career in the rural sector.
