The Sensor Enabled Automation & Control Hub (SEARCH), part of the Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering (CUE) in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) Department, is seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated SEARCH Administrator who will work closely with a SEARCH Director, the Finance & Project Manager and other team members to support recent growth and to drive forward key activities within the group.


SEARCH focuses on automated in-process inspection of high-value components at the point of manufacture, working alongside industrial partners in the Energy, Marine, Defence and Aerospace sectors. Featuring a new £2.1M laboratory and housing state-of-the-art equipment SEARCH aims to deliver impact at pace and scale to key external partners.


SEARCH annual funding income is typically several million pounds, meaning a significant number of active externally funded projects requiring day-to-day administration.


You will form part of an amazing, diverse and inclusive team of talented people consisting of 8 Academics, a Finance & Project Manager, over 35 Researchers/PhD Students and multiple Technicians that provide specialist knowledge and technical expertise across a range of innovative technologies.


Whilst the role’s main focus will be supporting SEARCH Director and other staff/researchers/students included in this will be external stakeholders and there is an expectation that the post-holder will contribute to wider Departmental activities aligned with the grade of the post.


To be considered for this post you should be educated to HNC level or above or have significant recent experience working in a similar role and the ability to provide comprehensive support.


You will have proven experience of working independently, within an administrative team and with senior management and be capable of delivering financial and administrative support including strong attention to detail. Essentially the postholder should have excellent IT skills across the range of Microsoft Office packages, excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to organise and prioritise a busy workload using initiative to ensure efficient service delivery.


Substantial knowledge and experience of the University’s Financial Management System is essential as is a flexible approach to duties and the ability to perform effectively and accurately.


There is also the opportunity to shadow & work under the SEARCH Project & Finance Manager with the view to a multi-year transition and pathway to future promotion within SEARCH.


The postholder will be expected to identify and make recommendations for improvements and be familiar with University policies and procedures to contribute to the continuous operational development of the Centre.
