Full Job Description

The Security Controller will play a critical role in ensuring that the Morris & Spottiswood Group complies with our client's security vetting and compliance requirements. This position involves taking day to day responsibility for delivering a consistent vetting process across the group; coordinating and conducting thorough security checks, managing employee, worker and supply chain information in an accurate, timely and confidential manner, ensuring compliance with legislation standards and company procedures.

The role of Security Controller will ensure our vetting processes are in line with the latest standards and any changes in policy.

The role will ensure that employees are properly vetted to maintain the reputation of the Group as a trusted partner for clients and stakeholders who prioritise security. The role will be supported by Security Vetting Officers as necessary to provide administration support to the vetting process to help avoid delays in project timelines due to security clearance issues.

Overall objectives:

  • Security Vetting Management: Manage all BPSS and SC vetting processes, including initial assessments, renewals, and changes in personnel security clearance.

  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure compliance with national security standards (e.g., the National Security Vetting policy) and internal policies.

  • Liaison with Government Agencies: Act as the point of contact for government vetting authorities.

  • Internal Training and Policy Enforcement: Ensure that internal staff are aware of and adhere to security vetting requirements, offering training where necessary.

  • Reporting and Audits: Prepare regular reports on the status of vetting processes, as well as assist with internal and external audits., Managing vetting applications across the Morris & Spottiswood Group.

  • Ensure sufficient resources are in place to support client demand and management of supply chain vetting.

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for client security vetting across the Group.

  • Conduct and coordinate comprehensive security vetting processes for all new and existing clients, including background checks, and security clearances (BPSS/SC/disclosure vetting as relevant).

  • Liaising with relevant employees, supply chain workers to collate all necessary vetting information.

  • Processing new vetting applications within the timescales specified.

  • Work proactively to ensure that individuals are security cleared as quickly as possible.

  • Communicate and liaise effectively with all employees, contractors, business partners and key stakeholders.

  • Maintain and update records of all client security vetting processes, ensuring that all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and stored securely.

  • Ensure accuracy, diplomacy and data protection is maintained when collecting and processing personal data.

  • Provide help and guidance and when necessary, chase individuals for additional information.

  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on client security protocols and best practices.

  • Prepare detailed reports on the vetting process, highlighting any risks or concerns, and present findings to relevant business director.

  • Regularly review and update vetting procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in response to emerging threats or changes in regulatory requirements.

  • Any other administrative duties as required to fulfil the requirements of the role.

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages

  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal

  • Proactive with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.

  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills

  • Able to work within company and client procedures and standards

  • Team player with a flexible and confident approach to work

  • Previous experience in a Security Vetting role is essential

  • Strong knowledge of UK national security vetting standards and compliance requirements.

  • Administrative qualification would be desirable but is not essential

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion., Hold a valid driving licence

  • Be fully IT literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel (at intermediate level)
