Full Job Description
SSE's core purpose is to provide the energy people need in a reliable and sustainable way. Our strategy is to deliver sustained growth in the dividend payable to shareholders through the efficient operation of, and investment in, a balanced range of regulated and non-regulated businesses.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Supply Chain team, sitting within our Transmission Procurement and Commercial team, focussing on Substations and Civils. We'll tailor the role to your experience, offering the position as either Category Manager or Senior Category Manager, developing and implementing key procurement and supply chain solutions across a range of projects and portfolios in our Networks Transmission business.
Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain, the Senior / Category Manager will support project teams and business unit stakeholders by developing strategic category plans, procurement strategies and contracts, and by providing robust pre and post contract management including supply chain engagement to support business goals and objectives.
You will
- Category Leadership: Take ownership of a specific category area and build strong, supportive relationships with Transmission customers. Ensure supply chain insights are developed and presented in an organised and thoughtful way.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Partner closely with Group Category Management teams to align Transmission needs with group-wide procurement strategies, while gathering and sharing valuable supply chain knowledge to support project teams.
- Strategic Integration: Seamlessly integrate Transmission's procurement strategies into group-wide plans, providing assistance during procurement events. Ensure Transmission customers feel informed and supported with the necessary contract and framework details.
- Tender Management: Lead Transmission-specific tendering activities with care and precision, guiding the process from documentation and commercial analysis to negotiations and contract recommendations, ensuring all stakeholders feel confident and valued.
- Supplier Relationships: Cultivate strong and positive relationships with suppliers, overseeing engagement and performance management. Use data and thoughtful reporting to evaluate and celebrate supplier success.
Relevant and relatable degree; for example Quantity Surveying or CIPS.
- Experience in managing supply chain activities, it would be great if you had knowledge or experience within the construction sector or linked to substation/civils delivery.
- Experience of managing frameworks/contracts on significant projects or programmes of work.
- Experience of the procurement process, including strategy development and implementation, ideally within a regulated / UCR environment but this is not essential.
- Experience of NEC forms of contract, including contract drafting and contract administration.
SSE has a bold ambition - to be a leading energy company in a net zero world. We're building the world's largest offshore wind farm. Transforming the grid to provide greener electricity for millions of people and investing over £20 billion in homegrown energy, with £20 billion more in the pipeline.
SSE own a portfolio of over 500 property and land assets - power stations, offices, depots and more. Our P&C, Property and FM teams help make sure our portfolio is modern, safe and fit for purpose. They help us get the best service and value from partners, while ensuring suppliers meet compliance, contractual and business obligations.
Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available, Enjoy discounts on private healthcare and gym memberships. Wellbeing benefits like a free online GP and 24/7 counselling service. Interest-free loans on tech and transport season tickets, or a new bike with our Cycle to Work scheme.
