The post holder has clinical, professional leadership and managerial responsibility for the nursing service within the Prison healthcare service and has overall responsibility for clinical and staff governance issues. The post holder will promote team working to maximise service performance and ensure the delivery of safe and effective clinical practice.

The post holder has overall responsibility for supervision of the assessment of care needs, the delivery and maintenance of optimal care outcomes in accordance with the clinical area ensuring that NHS Lothians standards, values and beliefs are upheld.

Enhancing the patient experience by ensuring that the highest standard of personalised assessment, treatment, care and support is delivered to patients in partnership with all members of the multi disciplinary team, ensuring a visible accessible approachable leadership presence.

Takes responsibility for ensuring that the department is efficiently managed at all times. This includes the management of the allocated budget in conjunction with the Health Care Manager/General Manager.

To carry out initial assessments of detainees with a view to identifying any pressing medical needs.

The post holder will primarily work week day hours however may be required to work unsocial hours and will travel throughout the Lothian when required.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
