Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There are 2 fulltime, permanent posts available of 37 hours per week, with a shift pattern of Monday to Friday (8am-4pm).

NMC UK Registration is essential.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinical expert with leadership qualities to lead a team of Nurses and ODP practitioners within the Orthopaedic Theatres in the North Sector.

Preferred candidates should possess clinical expertise within Theatres of at least 5 years, mostly at band 6 level. NHS experience desirable.

The service is looking for a practitioner who puts a high quality, person centred care at the centre of the Theatre environment. This post supports 24/7 service delivery within the North Sector. Candidates should have an acute and a flexible skill set as this is essential for this role. You will be a leader of a fast paced area and responsible for staff development to support a flexible service.

The successful candidate will be highly visible and demonstrate excellent leadership skills.

Candidates are welcome from professionals who have a can do attitude with a willingness and the necessary leadership skills to progress the patients journey so that it is timely, safe, and flexible to meet service needs.

Scope and range of the post:-

    • Overall responsibility for the setting, implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice to deliver person-centred care
    • Manage all staff within remit. This includes adherence to TURAS, training and HR policies devised by Once for Scotland
    • Provide clinical leadership to nursing / ODP / HCSW staff
    • Responsible for the monitoring and management of the orthopaedic department budget including pay and non-pay.

The successful candidate will be offered a supported induction period. This will be a super-numerical period shadowing SCN peers including hub and theatre co-ordinator. During this time input from HR training and access with administrative support will be established. This administrative support will be in place to allow you as a SCN to meet targets and increase visibility within the teams.

It is also essential you have evidence of continual development, IT skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a Theatre environment.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.
