Full Job Description
Senior Civil Engineer
Salary: £53,635 - £73,749 (pending pay award in January)
Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) owns vessels and harbour infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving many communities throughout Scotland. We have big ambitions to transform the ferry network in Scotland. Backed by a five-year £580 million investment plan from Scottish Government, our plans to upgrade and improve ferries and harbours are already well underway and we need enthusiastic, innovative engineering project managers to join us to provide and maintain the safe, efficient, reliable ports and harbours that Scotland’s islands need.
We are recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to help deliver our programme of works to maintain existing infrastructure, upgrade facilities to accommodate new vessels and adopt new technologies, and even build brand new ferry terminals.
The role
· Manage the development, procurement and implementation of capital and refurbishment projects and works for harbour infrastructure.
· Deliver multiple projects and planned & reactive programmes of work from initiation to completion.
· Lead project teams including consultants, contractors, internal stakeholders, and the port/ferry operator to deliver projects and solutions.
· Manage projects and works to minimise disruption to port and ferry operations and neighbouring communities.
· Work with communities and external stakeholders to understand their needs and, where possible, accommodate these in project outcomes.
· Manage projects and works to comply with legislative and business requirements.
Who are we looking for?
CMAL requires motivated, professional, and diligent people with a proactive and creative approach to problem solving and the ability to work flexibly, both within a team and autonomously. We are particularly looking for people with the following skills, experience, and attributes:
· Experience in managing, co-ordinating, and supervising engineering projects and works.
· Experience of working with engineering consultants to achieve required outcomes.
· Dedicated team player, who is capable of building strong, effective relationships both internally and externally.
· Recent experience of working in a project management environment.
· Thorough knowledge and understanding of H&S and other legal, statutory and technical requirements within civil engineering and/or structural engineering.
· A background in marine engineering, knowledge of Scottish Government procurement routes and/or use of NEC contracts would all be advantageous, but we can help you gain this experience if required.
· A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Project Management or other relevant discipline (BSc/BEng/MEng) or other relevant qualification (e.g. HND) with relevant experience to demonstrate the attributes required of a chartered professional.
What’s in it for you?
A rewarding and evolving working environment in a future thinking organisation.
In addition to an attractive salary (placing on the scale is dependent on qualifications and experience) and a benefits package, including 30 days annual leave plus 8 public holidays per year, a defined benefit pension scheme, life assurance, an optional healthcare scheme, free ferry travel and we also support further personal and professional development.
The work environment
Our head office is on the Clyde Estuary, in Port Glasgow and our ports and harbours are spread across the west coast and islands of Scotland. Like most organisations, we’ve learnt a thing, or two, about flexible, remote working and we are actively building on this to ensure we have the best people working with us to serve the communities that rely on our infrastructure.
The primary responsibilities of the roles will be undertaken during office hours of Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00 at our Port Glasgow head office, but the ability to work flexible hours, travel to remote locations, including staying overnight on the CMAL network and elsewhere, is also required.
