Are you ready to develop new generalist skills and build on your experience? Could your nursing skills and experience help us to achieve our vision of becoming a centre of excellence in remote and rural healthcare?

NHS Orkney aspires to being a centre of excellence in remote and rural healthcare and we are keen to recruit a Senior Community Nurse who shares this vision to support our team on Westray.

The Orcades Practice (approx. 1,959 patients) consists of six single-handed island practices with GPs and Nurses providing 24/7 healthcare to the smaller islands of Orkney.  Weekly Microsoft Team meetings enable clinicians to share knowledge and experience to overcome professional isolation and provide strong peer support.

The post holder will work as part of a small health and social care team who all work on a rotational basis and provide on-call cover when on shift. You will be accountable and responsible for the clinical and professional leadership of the Band 5 Community Nurse and be adaptable, resourceful, and confident to work without the resource of a hospital at hand. The role involves assessing and planning the health care needs of patients and families, monitoring the quality of care theyre receiving and be professionally accountable for delivery of care. Other duties will include treatment room activities and providing emergency cover as necessary.

Applications are invited from experienced Band 6 nurses who are forward thinking, highly motivated and are able to evidence up to date clinical knowledge and skills. You must have an ability and interest in working and developing a wide range of skills in a remote and rural setting, working across the lifespan.

Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity. The Westray community is cohesive, vibrant, and supportive with an excellent school, good leisure facilities and amazing wildlife and scenery.  Orkney has excellent transport links to the UK mainland; daily flights from Kirkwall are just an hour to all four major Scottish airports.  To find out more about living and working in Orkney go to www.orkney.com, www.orkneycommunities.co.uk and  https://youtu.be/AD24d9JJLmI.    Further information on NHS Orkney can be found at www.ohb.scot.nhs.uk
